Established under the 1947 Act Cheshire County Fire Brigade commenced its duties on 1st April 1948, having 28 stations in 5 Districts manned by a mix of whole time, day manning and retained personnel
 
Its area ranged from A District with stations at Hyde, Stalybridge, Cheadle Hulme, Hazel Grove and Marple, through B / C / D Districts covering Wilmslow,    
Macclesfield, Sale, Altrincham, Knutsford, Stockton Heath, Crewe, Congleton
Northwich, Winsford, Nantwich, Middlewich, Sandbach, Audlem, Tarporley
Malpas and Bollington. Lastly came E District which covered the Wirral and N W Cheshire with stations at Ellesmere Port, Hoylake, Heswall, Port Sunlight (Lever Bros), Runcorn and Frodsham

Re-organised several times as funds became available in the late 1950’s the Brigade expanded with a new station opened in Bebington taking over from Lever Brothers Works Brigade, followed by a host of stations replacing out dated pre war and wartime emergency stations. Indeed by 1974 Cheshire had built new stations across nearly the whole County

In April 1974 3 stations passed to the new Merseyside County FB being Bebington, Hoylake and Heswall

Opening Times

The Heritage Centre is open to the Public Monday to Friday between 10.00 and 15.00.

It is essential that visits are pre-booked, preferably by telephone or email.
