Fire In Bedroom Of A House in Kirkby

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was called out to a fire involving a quantity of bedding at a house in Kirkby.

Firefighters attended a fire in the bedroom of a house in Shaldon Walk at around 3.45pm on Sunday, April 13.

The involved a bed and a quantity of bed covers, which were severely damaged by fire.

There was also severe smoke damage to the first floor and moderate smoke damage to the ground floor.

Three fire appliances from Kirby, Huyton and Aintree community fire stations were called out and the bedroom was well alight when firefighters arrived. Fire crews were there for just over an hour.

An elderly woman was out of the property before firefighters arrived. She was given a precautionary check by paramedics but hospital treatment was not required.

Hard wired smoke alarms had been fitted and raised the alarm.

Following an investigation by the MF&RS Incident Investigation Team, it is suspected that the fire was caused by a fault in an electrical socket underneath the bed.

Firefighters are visiting homes in the area to give fire safety advice to residents.
