Crews called to fire at flats in New Ferry, Wirral

Firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on Field Close in New Ferry at 12.12pm on Sunday, March 12.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was called at 12.06pm and crews were alerted at 12.07pm. They were on scene at 12.12pm.

Three fire engines attended the incident.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus used a high pressure hose reel to extinguish the fire, which occurred in the ground floor of the building.

They ventilated the area using a PPV fan.

A 14-year-old female self-evacuated the property prior to the arrival of firefighters. She was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital by paramedics for further checks.

The lounge of the flat was entirely damaged by fire. The hall, stairs and landing sustained severe heat and smoke damage.

The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.

Firefighters remained at the scene for around an hour and a half.
