Firefighters were called to a bedroom fire at a property on Juniper Close in Stockbridge Village in Knowsley at 11.23pm on Sunday, December 17.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was called at 11.17pm and crews were alerted at 11.18pm. They were on scene at 11.23pm.

Two fire engines attended the incident and crews used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire was accidental due to radiated heat from a fan heater causing an aerosol canister to explode.

No-one was injured. Both floors of the property were damaged by the explosion. The bedroom sustained severe fire damage.

Watch Manager Tony Harland said: “Any heat source impinging on an aerosol can will cause the internal pressure to increase which will eventually lead to a rupture.

“We therefore strongly urge members of the public to keep aerosol cans far away from any heat source when they are in use.

“Always pay attention to the instructions on aerosol canisters and do not expose them to sunlight or any source of heat."

Firefighters remained at the incident for around two hours.
