Church outbuilding fire in St Helens

Firefighters are attending a fire at a single-storey church outbuilding on Derwent Road in Haresfinch, St Helens.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was called at 4.15am on Wednesday, February 28 and crews were alerted at 4.15am. They were on the scene at 4.23am.

Eight fire engines and an aerial appliance attended the incident and crews used hose reel jets, main branches and compressed air foam to tackle the fire.

The building is severely damaged by fire and the building's roof collapsed inside the building.

Police set up a cordon at the scene.

Firefighters remain at the scene damping down. The cause of fire is under investigation.

No-one is thought to have been injured.
