Warehouse Waste Fire Birkenhead

New Chester Road, Birkenhead.
Firefighters have been called to a fire in an unoccupied warehouse on New Chester Road, Birkenhead.

Crews were alerted at 4.49 pm and on scene at 4.56 pm. 4 fire engines are in attendance.

Crews arrived to find a single storey warehouse around 50 x 50 metres with a large quantity of waste involved in the fire.

Firefighters are tackling the fire externally with hand held branch hoses and have established water supplies. 2 ground monitors have been established and are also engaged in attacking the fire.

Police are attending to assist with traffic management and are closing both carriageways of New Chester Rd. The incident is ongoing.

UPDATE 6.45PM:

There are now 6 fire engines on scene. The area involved has been divided into sectors and the fire is being fought with ground monitors and hand held branch hoses. Breathing apparatus is in use and a High Volume Pump is in use to secure effective water supplies for firefighting.

The A41 New Chester Rd. is closed from the roundabout at Tile Giant and the roundabout at McDonald's in both directions owing to smoke drifting.

This is primarily an industrial area but residents and businesses nearby should keep doors and windows closed.
