Paramotor aircraft crash at Royal Birkdale Golf Course

Fire crews are currently in attendance at an incident involving a microlight aircraft in Birkdale.

At around 7pm on Thursday 11th April, emergency services were called to the Royal Birkdale Golf Course following reports a microlight aircraft had crashed.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service is at the scene extinguishing the fire caused when the aircraft hit the ground. Merseyside Police and ambulance crew are also in attendance.

Road closures are in place on the Coastal Road including Shore Road and Weld Road and we advise motorists to avoid the area.

UPDATE 9.22AM FRIDAY 12TH APRIL

Following enquiries, Merseyside Police has confirmed the incident at Royal Birkdale Golf Course yesterday evening (Thursday 11 April 2019) involved a paramotor, not a microlight as originally reported.

At around 7pm police and other emergency services were called to Royal Birkdale Golf Course following reports the paramotor had crashed.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service attended to extinguish the fire caused by the crash, and the North West Ambulance Service were also in attendance. A man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A police investigation is underway on behalf of the Coroner to establish the identity of the man and the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Road closures will be in place on the Coastal Road including Shore Road and Weld Road and we advise motorists to avoid the area.
