Upper Aughton Road, Southport
Firefighters are currently in attendance at a fire at a derelict public house on Upper Aughton Road in Southport.

Crews were alerted at 9.18am and on scene at 9.23am. Four fire engines are currently in attendance as well as the combined platform ladder (CPL).

The ground floor, first floor and roof space of the property are involved in the fire.

The fire has been sectorised. Firefighters are using main branches to extinguish the fire. The CPL is being used as a water tower.

Residents and businesses in the area are advised to keep windows and doors closed. Anyone with existing medical conditions should keep medicines near by and call 111 if any ill effects occur.

Merseyside Police are also in attendance.

The incident is ongoing.

One fire engine remains on scene.

The CPL was used to remove parts of the roof to allow crews to check for hot spots and fire spread. The CPL and three fire engines have now been released from the scene.

The remaining crew are continuing to carry out hot spotting operations.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will be carried out in due course.

Firefighting operations have now ceased and the incident will be handed over to the site owner shortly.
