They are used to fighting fires but one Merseyside firefighter will be fighting fatigue this weekend as she takes on the ultimate treadmill challenge for two important charities.

Firefighter Faye Disley, who works in the Protection department at Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service, will run up to 20 miles on a treadmill at the Sainsbury’s Rice Lane store in Walton on Saturday, September 30 between 10:00 and 15:00

Faye, who lives in Aintree, is hoping to raise vital funds for Fibromyalgia Action UK, which aims to improve the lives of people with fibromyalgia – a long-term condition that causes pain throughout the body – by increasing awareness of the syndrome throughout the UK.

She will also be raising money for The Fire Fighters Charity, which offers a range of support services to firefighters and fire service staff.

Faye, who has been taking part in a number of fundraising activities over the course of a year, will use the treadmill challenge as a training exercise before she takes part in the New York Marathon on Sunday, November 5 to raise even more funds for Fibromyalgia Action UK and the Fire Fighters Charity.

“I’m hoping as many people as possible come along to support me on Saturday and help me raise as much money as possible for two wonderful causes”, said Faye, 40.

“As well as me running on the treadmill I have friends packing bags at the tills and we hope it will be a good chance to raise awareness of Fibromyalgia Action UK and The Fire Fighters Charity.

“My dream is to raise around £2,000 for the two charities as both are close to my heart and provide valuable services to people all across the UK.

“I would love to see as many people there as possible at Sainsbury’s on Saturday, to cheer me on and help me raise as much money as possible for two really fantastic charities.”
