Firefighters raise fan-tache-tic amount for Movember Foundation

Thursday, 30 November 2017

We are incredibly proud of our firefighters from Aintree and Kensington Community Fire Stations who have raised a fan-tache-tic amount of money for a very worthy cause by taking part in Movember.

All throughout November, male firefighters have been growing moustaches to support the Movember initiative, which seeks to raise awareness and money for men’s health issues.

An annual event, Movember is run by Movember Foundation UK and seeks to shine a light on issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s suicide.

So far, our Aintree firefighters have raised £1,158 and our Kensington firefighters have raised £570.

Firefighter Mark Buchanan, who works at Aintree Community Fire Station and is pictured below alongside his Aintree colleagues (front row, second from left), said: “The idea for us taking part in Movember came from a conversation around the mess table.

Everyone was keen to get involved to raise awareness of a serious issue – men’s health.

“Men are facing a health crisis that isn’t being talked about; they are dying too young – much before their time. This year the guys and girls at Aintree Fire Station took action by raising funds for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

“We would like to personally take the time to thank everyone for their donations and support during this month.
We have raised many eyebrows, and many moustaches, but more importantly we have raised awareness and money for a very worthwhile cause.

“We're already looking forward to growing more top taches for next year’s event!”
