Fire Death Prompts Campaign

Wednesday, 06 February 2013

A SAFETY campaign was launched today following the death of a pensioner in a house fire.

The 68-year-old, who has not been named, perished as flames tore through the downstairs of his home in Cowper Street, Bootle, on Monday morning.

Merseyside fire and rescue service said the cause of the fire is being treated as accidental.

The fire service was today set to carry out a reassurance campaign at more than 300 Bootle homes following the fire.

Together with colleagues from the police, Sefton council and social housing provider Riverside, fire crews will lead the safety campaign from a base at St Leonard's Community Centre on Peel Road.

They will visit homes in the area offering advice on electrical fires, heating safety and carry out home safety checks.
