The 2013 UK Rescue Organisation (UKRO) Challenge will take place in July and
will be based around the revitalised Albert Dock area of Liverpool with
spectacular views of the River Mersey, iconic historic buildings, including the
Liver Building, and cultural centres including the Museum of Liverpool, Maritime
Museum and Tate Liverpool.
A huge range of top shops, restaurants, hotels and bars are also just a stone’s
throw from where the action will take place. The public will also be able to
watch the challenges and will have access to safety information from Merseyside
Fire & Rescue Service staff, including road safety.
The opening ceremony for the event takes place at the Liverpool Echo Arena BT
Convention Centre on the 4th of July 2013, with the challenges taking place on
July 5th and July 6th.
The range of challenges this year includes Road Traffic Collision (RTC) rescues,
rope rescue, casualty management/trauma, water rescue and Urban Search and
Teams from Fire and Rescue Services from all over the UK will be attending in
addition to a guest team from one of Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service’s
multitude of overseas partners.
As the Chief Fire Officers’ Association (CFOA) lead for Technical Response and
Urban Search and Rescue; Chief Fire Officer for Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service
Dan Stephens will be leading on the first ever CFOA conference looking at the
broad and increasing range of technical rescue that fire crews now have to
respond to and what the sector is doing to ensure fire crews are trained,
equipped and available to respond. The conference, which takes place on July 4
at the Crowne Plaza in Liverpool, will be attended by senior and Chief Fire
Officers from all over the country.
A road safety event aimed at highlighting the impact of crashes on the roads
will run alongside this year’s UKRO event and be open to the public. Six schools
from Merseyside have also been invited to the road safety event. We can not wait
