MEETING DAY ERROR IN NEWSLETTER

Saturday, 13 May 2017

Colleagues,

Apologies, (must be an age thing).

There is a serious faux-pas, in the YPS Newsletter, which is totally down to me.

Obviously, for those who attend and read my ALL MEMBERS BULLETINS, meetings are held on the last WEDNESDAY of each month.

Regards

Matty

WIDOW'S HALF UPDATE, POSITIVE NEWS

Tuesday, 27 October 2015

Colleagues,

after considerable enquiries, I have been given the following information, from YOUR PENSION SERVICES, regarding; WIDOWS HALF ENTITLEMENT.

As most, if not all, retirees, who are members of our Association, are in the 1992 (and subsequent amendments to) FIREMANS PENSION SCHEME;

When you sadly go on your final detachment, your WIDOW will receive the oft term WIDOWS HALF (Its not half, but usually slightly more).

I WAS ALWAYS OF THE OPINION THAT ONCE YOU DIVORCED, THE WIDOWS HALF WAS WITHDRAWN.(WRONG!!!)

INFO RECEIVED;

If you have been divorced and re-married, YOUR PRESENT WIFE would still receive the WIDOWS HALF.

If you remarry after retiring, again, your present wife would receive the WIDOWS HALF, but slightly/marginally less. (The pension provider has a formula to fit)

Obviously, IF, after your demise your Widow re-marries or sets up a common law situation, SHE WOULD LOSE THE PENSION.

Hope this helps

Can I add, in recent years we have had some of our members who have lived over the brush/common law relationships. Alas, they have died and their pension has died with them..........................GIVE IT A THOUGHT (if this may be you)

STATE PENSION FROM 2016

Tuesday, 07 April 2015

Colleagues,

this info has been updated following info received and a conversation with the DWP.

NEW STATE PENSION 2016 (IMPORTANT)

Colleagues,

as most will be aware, The STATE PENSION is to be modified from April 6th 2016 .

The DWP has forecast that those aged 65 (or whatever age the Government set as the age for retirement) on or after this date will receive circa £148.

This figure encompasses any additional benefits/add ons that are claimed by present claimants.

Firefighters (all ranks) at present, with sufficient No of NI Contributions, receive circa £117 (those with some SERPS contributions get a little more)

Right, Fire Service retirees, who attain 65, as above, WILL NOT get the £148.

Due to being contracted out, because you receive an employer's pension, the sum you will receive should remain around the £117 mark.

UPDATED APRIL 7th 2015

"straight from the horses mouth" and who am I to say Dave Dooley looks like a horse?

Dave forwarded me the following, after calling the DWP;

Most retirees who will be entitled to commence receiving a state pension on or after April 6th 2016 will receive a figure circa £117.

further info;

To ensure queries are kept to a minimum I also had a word with the DWP and a very courteous lad informed me that;

The minimum figure is £113.10 which is achieved by paying 30 years of National Insurance contributions.

The lower figure on the paperwork you receive will not come into being until after 2023 and will be determined once again by; contributions along with factors concerning whether the recipient is part of a private or employer pension scheme.

He also gave me two snippets that will assist those concerned;

1) The figure the recipient will receive is the figure on page 1 on the forecast sent to them, this is the larger of the two figures on page 2.

2) The DWP have brought the problem of having two figures on one forecast to the attention of the Government department and in the near future, only the figure that the recipient receives will be shown

Hope this helps.

The 'phone No given was incorrect, he No is 0191 2183600

Also, it may benefit some, to receive their pension weekly as you're usually just informed that you'll get it monthly (in arrears) without an option for weekly payment.

I followed the advice of a friend and rang the DWP stating my financial situation needed me to get my pension weekly and I do.
