	CLLR KAREN AFFORD - LIBERAL DEMOCRAT Councillor Karen Afford was appointed to the Authority in June 2007, by Liverpool Council where she represents County Ward. 	CLLR VERA BEST - LIBERAL DEMOCRAT Councillor Best has been a Member of the Authority since June 2001 and is appointed by Liverpool Council where she represents Allerton and Hunts Cross Ward. She is a member of the Strategy & Resources, Appeals, Appointments, Standards and Stronger & Diverse Communities. She is the Modernisation Older Persons Champion as well as being the Liberal Democrat representative on the Member Training and Liaison Group. 	CLLR ANDREW BLACKBURN - LIBERAL DEMOCRAT Councillor Andrew Blackburn was appointed to the Authority in June 2007, by Sefton Council where he represents Park Ward. He is a member of the Liberal Democrat Group on the Authority and serves on the Strategy & Resources, Asset Management & Shared Services and North West Regional Control & Firelink Committee. 	CLLR MARTYN BARBER - CONSERVATIVE Cllr Martyn Barber was appointed to the Authority in June 2008 by Sefton Council where he represents Manor Ward. He is a member of the Conservative Group on the Authority and serves on the Performance & Audit, Standards and Regional Economic Development & Sustainability Committees as well as being the Authority's representative in the Merseyside Brussels Office. 	CLLR EDDIE CLEIN - LIBERAL DEMOCRAT Councillor Clein was appointed to the Authority by Liverpool City Council where he represents Childwall Ward. He commenced his second period as a Member in May 2002 after previously leaving to serve as Lord Mayor of Liverpool. Councillor Clein Chairs the Regional, Economic Development & Sustainability Committee and sits on the Asset Management & Shared Services and Appeals Committees. 	CLLR JACK COLBERT - LIBERAL DEMOCRAT Councillor Colbert was appointed to the Authority on 14th June 2003 by Sefton Council where he represents Molyneux Ward. He is  Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group and Opposition Spokesman. Councillor Colbert serves on the Strategy & Resources, Community Safety & IRMP, Asset Management & Shared Services Committees and the Consultation and Negotiation Panel. 	CLLR TED GRANNELL – LABOUR Cllr Grannell has been a Member of the Authority since May 1995 and is appointed by Knowsley Council where he represents Cherryfield Ward. He is the representative of the Authority on the “Local Authorities Confronting Disasters and Emergencies” organisation, the North West Employers Organisation and the Urban Commission. He also serves on the Community Safety & IRMP, Standards, Asset Management & Shared Services and North West Regional Control & Firelink Committees and is Chair of the Consultation & Negotiation Panel. 	CLLR DAVE HANRATTY - LABOUR Cllr Hanratty has been a Member of the Authority since May 1999 and is appointed by Liverpool City Council where he represents Fazakerley Ward. 	CLLR BETTY LOWE MBE – CONSERVATIVE Cllr. Lowe was appointed to the Authority in 2006. She is a member of the Conservative Group on the Authority and is the Chair of the Community Safety & IRMP Committee, sits on the Stronger & Diverse Communities Committee and is the Conservative representative on the Member Training and Liaison Group. Betty has been a St.Helens District Councillor for many years where she currently represents the Rainford Ward. She has been a Parish Councillor since 1975 and retired last year. She was Mayor of St.Helens 2004 - 2005 her charity being "Carers". This raised over £32,000 in 11months for Betty's Special Breaks. 	CLLR JIMMY MAHON - LABOUR Councillor Mahon is Vice-Chair of the Authority. He is a member of the Strategy & Resources, Appeals, Appointments and Stronger & Diverse Communities Committees. He is also Chair of the Member Training & Liaison Group. He was appointed to the Authority in June 2002 by Sefton Council where he represents St.Oswald Ward. He is responsible within Sefton Council for answering questions on the discharge of the functions of the Authority. 	CLLR TONY NEWMAN - LABOUR Councillor Newman is the Chair of the Authority. He also Chairs the Appeals and the Appointments Committees, and serves on the Asset Management & Shared Services Committee and the Management Board. He was appointed to the Authority with effect from May 1994 by Knowsley Council where he represents Whiston South Ward. Councillor Newman is a representative of the Authority on the Fire Service Forum and the Urban Commission of the Local Government Association as well as the North West Regional Fire and Rescue Management Board. He also has responsibility within Knowsley Council for answering questions on the discharge of functions of the Authority. 	CLLR KEN ROUGHLEY - CONSERVATIVE Councillor Roughley was appointed in June 2007 by St.Helens MBC to serve on Merseyside Fire & Rescue Authority. He has been a Councillor in St.Helens for 5 years and a Parish Councillor for Windle for 7 years. He also has served on Merseytravel Passenger Transport Authority. Early on in his life he was attached to Rainford Fire Station as a Firefighter, and is looking forward to the challenges that the modern day Fire Authority has to address.
