Situated near the River Mersey, the three main
sites of Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service are situated in
close proximity.
The Merseyside area is serviced by the motorways:
M6, M56, M53, M62, M57 and M58. To the south of Liverpool is Liverpool
John Lennon Airport and the local area has a rail network
and bus services (see Merseytravel website).
For travel between the Wirral and Liverpool there are two tunnels,
an underground rail system and a ferry service.
From the North
Turn off M6 at junction 26 and join the M58 to
its starting point in Maghull.
From the South
Take the M62 east bound until junction 6 and join
M57 north (Maghull, Southport).
From the East
Take the M62 west bound until junction 6 and join
M57.
From the West
Join the M53 and follow to the Wallasey tunnel.
From the Wirral
Join the M53 at junction 12 and travel north until
its end and head for the Wallasey tunnel (toll charge £1.20).
For journeys between the Wirral peninsula and Liverpool there
are two tunnels; the Kingsway or 'Wallasey' tunnel and the Queensway
or 'Birkenhead' tunnel (this runs between the city centres of
Birkenhead and Liverpool). Additionally there are ferry services
operated by Merseyside Passenger Transport and an underground
rail service operated by Merseyrail (details at Merseytravel website).
From the Liverpool John Lennon Airport
From the airport follow signs to Liverpool until
you get to the main junction with the A561 (Speke Boulevard)
past the Jaguar factory on the left. Continue until you reach
the roundabout junction with the A5300 (Knowsley Expressway -
signposted to Southport). The A5300 at the next junction becomes
the M57, continue on this. (See additional directions in the
'From the South' section on the site you wish to visit)
