Six fire appliances, an aerial appliance and a support appliance brought a fire involving a row of shops under control.
Our Service was called out to the incident on Hillside Road just after 1.30am on Thursday, April 16. The fire broke out in the roof space of a commercial property containing eight shop units.
A fire appliance from Huyton Community Fire Station was quickly at the scene with a second fire appliance from Old Swan Community Fire Station also attending.
Firefighters had difficulty accessing the fire due to the unusual construction of the roof. They used specialist rescue saws to cut holes in the roof to access the fire.
Group Manager Chris Case said:
"Firefighters worked quickly to stop this fire from spreading to further buildings in the area. This was a difficult job due to the location of the fire and crews worked tirelessly to save as many shops as they could.
"After bringing the fire under control, firefighters dealt with pockets of fire but they needed to remain at the scene for a number of hours to make sure the fire was completely extinguished. We also worked with Knowsley Council officers to make the premises safe.”
An investigation into the cause of the fire was also launched.
