From the Chair...
We were delighted to have been awarded £4.47milion of capital money from the government through the Fire Transformation Fund in October.
This will allow us to invest in a way that helps to deliver the permanent savings and reductions in fire cover needed to tackle our budget deficit arising from the reduction to our revenue grant funding.
We will do this through our planned programme of station mergers, closures and relocations. The programme will also allow us the opportunity to work closer with other emergency services.
The programme includes merging Huyton and Whiston community fire stations into a new fire station at Prescot and having completed a public consultation, the building work will begin shortly.
It also includes a proposal to merge Upton and West Kirby community fire stations at a new fire station at Greasby. The Authority is part way through a public consultation process for this proposal.
There is also a proposal to merge St Helens and Eccleston community fire stations at a new fire station at St Helens town centre. The Authority is still considering suitable sites for this.
The programme also includes a proposal to close Allerton Community Fire Station and a public consultation on this starts on November 1, 2014.

A bumper crop of pumpkins have been grown in a station’s garden area thanks to the efforts of two Watches.
White Watch and Blue Watch at Huyton Community Fire Station grew these sunflowers and pumpkins in the last few months.
The photo was taken at the start of October at the station.
