Celebrating Prince’s T
Everton Player Congratulates Elly
She said: “Before I began the Team, I was absolutely terrified. I was afraid of meeting new people and worried that nobody would like me. I struggled at first
but everyone was in the same boat and we all bonded really well as a group.”
In the time since successfully completing the Team programme, Elly has gone from strength to strength and credits her time with The Prince’s Trust as the
reason for her surge in confidence, stating that she’d still be lacking direction if she hadn’t applied. She is now a volunteer for the Team programme.
She says: “I saw what the Team could offer people so I was eager to be part of that giving back process
if I could. I’ve revelled in the responsibility given to
me by the tutors in helping the learners on the course. Now I use my own life experiences to empathise with others and help them through
similar life changes.”
Tony Canavan, MF&RS Prince’s Trust Team Co-
ordinator, said: “We are extremely proud of Elly and
everything she has achieved. This goes to show how the
Prince’s Trust Team programme at Merseyside Fire &
Rescue Service can really help transform people’s
lives.”
Leon said: “I’m always keen to hear about the journeys young people have gone on having completed a programme with The Trust. It’s inspiring to hear how they’ve turned their lives around with support from programmes like Team so I’m thrilled to be able to present Elly with her certificate today. She is living proof
that courses like these actually work.”
A young Bootle woman who took part in our Service’s Prince’s Trust Team programme was honoured with a special award from Everton player Leon Osman.
Elly Bryson, 21, was the 25,000th person to achieve a
qualification on the Team programme and she was
presented with her award at Everton FC’s training ground.
The Prince’s Trust Team programme celebrated its 25th anniversary this summer and has supported more than 187,000 young people since it launched in 1990.
The programme is a 12-week personal development course which gives young people the skills and confidence to find employment through teamwork in the
community.
Elly finished her studies at college in 2012 but suffering from mental health problems, low confidence and self-esteem, she faced an uncertain future and struggled to find work. With little prospects, Elly felt frustrated and alone. She completed the Prince’s Trust Team programme with our Service.
She said: “My life before The Prince’s Trust was chaotic; I wasn’t satisfied with where
I was heading. I wanted to make a change but didn’t know how.”
However, when she heard about the charity’s Team programme, she decided to give it a try.
