Fatalities in Accidental Dwelling Fires between 2004/05 and 2013/14











































Chart 1 identiies that the number of fatalities in accidental dwelling 

ires attended by Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service has fallen from a 


high of 11 for both 2004/05 and 2005/06 to a low of 5 during 2010/11 

and 2011/12. In the past year (2013/14) there were 8 fatalities.




In the 1990s Merseyside often had 20+ deaths a year in accidental 


dwelling ires, but in recent years deaths have reduced to single igures.




Wirral had the highest number of fatalities over the last decade, closely 


followed by Liverpool, while St Helens had the fewest with eight. When 

overall population is taken into account Wirral has proportionally the 


highest number of deaths while St Helens is still the lowest.
