The World Firefighter Games (August 24, 2008 September
3, 2008) are to be held in Liverpool in the city's Capital of Culture year. Merseyside
Fire and Rescue Service beat off strong competition from around the world to win
the right to host the biennial games in 2008.
It will provide a huge boost to Liverpool's Capital of Culture celebrations with
thousands of firefighters and their families from around the globe gathering for
a host of sporting events. The Games, which will feature more than 5,000 athletes,
includes all the main Olympic athletics events, but the blue riband is the test
to find the toughest firefighter alive.
