What the MF&RS Heritage and Education Centre can offer your School

An exciting, varied and flexible Educational Experience is on offer to your children at our unique Bridle Road Heritage and Education Centre.

Your visit will contribute towards the children's understanding of the National Curriculum in History, Maths, English and Science as well as being an unforgettable experience.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue holds the largest archive of any Fire and Rescue Service in the UK with over 80,000 photographs and records digitised. We can bring local history, fire heritage and national history alive with presentations and experience's tailor made to your requirements.

The experience begins with the delivery in advance of your visit of a specially produced box containing artefacts, information and photographs to excite the children's imagination and prepare them for their visit. We offer two themes
'The World War Two Blitz 'and 'Queen Victoria's Merseyside'. We ask for a small refundable deposit for the use of these boxes to cover costs only.

On the day your party will be greeted by a trained Guide who are all CRB checked. There is no charge for the visit and we can accommodate up to 25 children at once. They will come into our AV room, sit down and receive a short brief on health and safety followed by a presentation on the reason for their visit it including fire heritage and safety.

They will then be issued with their task sheets and pencils and a 20 - 30 minute tour of the Heritage Centre follows with the children encouraged to ask questions so they can complete their task sheets.

They will get to see a variety of fire appliances and a wide range of artefacts, equipment and much more. They will learn about water and hydraulics as well as having the chance to have safe 'hands on' experience of some equipment and carry out basic tasks under full supervision.
On completion the children return to the AV room so the task sheets can be marked or if you prefer this can be done back at your school every child will receive a prize
Each group will be also be shown how to make a Fire Plan for their own home to keep them, their family and their pets safe.

The length of your visit can be tailored to suit your requirements between 1½ and 2½ hours. The Centre is open Tuesday to Thursday during term 10.00AM to 3.00PM.
Visits on other day may also be possible by arrangement.
