James Berry is the Area Manager for Protection at Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.
He has over 28 years’ experience with an excellent understanding of how the fire sector operates and is governed.
During his career he has worked in all operational roles of management up to and including Area Manager. His operational experience is expansive having operated in some of the most challenging high population low socio-economic areas of the City of Liverpool as well as semi-rural high vulnerability areas of Merseyside.
As a Senior Manager James commanded the Knowsley and Liverpool Metropolitan Districts of Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service. He has also operated as Group Manager responsible for Operational Preparedness (including Fire Control, Local Resilience Forum, Operational Intelligence and Emergency Planning) and as Lead Officer for Prevention.
As the Area Manager (Operational Response) James was responsible for Operational Readiness of all Merseyside Fire and Rescue stations, including Operational Assurance, Time and Resource Management and Health & Safety.
James is currently Area Manager with responsibility for Community Risk Management- Protection. Following the tragic events of Grenfell Tower there has been an increased expectation from both domestic and non-domestic sectors relating to Fire Safety and James provides strategic leadership, governance and accountability for all of our Protection activity.
