Derelict Warehouse Fire, Birkenhead

Fire Crews have been called to a large fire at a derelict warehouse on Cleveland St., Birkenhead.

Crews were alerted at 17.47 and were on scene at 17.51.

There are 8 fire engines and an aerial appliance in attendance.

Crews arrived to find a large derelict brick built warehouse approx. 100 x 50 metres x 15 metres high well alight. The building appears to be full of commercial waste. Firefighters have set up main branch hoses to fight the fire.

There is a large smoke plume affecting particularly Cavendish St. and Corporation Rd., also Beaufort Rd. Residents and businesses nearby should close windows and doors.

The incident is being sectorised and foam is being used to fight the fire in addition to ground monitors and main branch hoses.

Residents should keep medicines nearby and if any ill effects are experienced please call NHS 111.
