Updated Proficiency in Advanced Firefighting

Under the new STCW 2010 requirement for training and certification, Updated Proficiency training will need to be undertaken in Advanced Firefighting every five years.

Seafarers need to hold a certificate for Proficiency in Advanced Firefighting or if undertaken prior to 31st January 2002 have completed the Advanced Firefighting (4 day).
The course can be undertaken by seafarers who have a certificate of Proficiency in Fire Prevention and Firefighting. NB- certificates of proficiency issued under the authority of other administrators will be acceptable or seafarers who have six months or more sea service prior to 1st August 1998 and were exempt from basic safety courses.

There is no requirement to submit a self declaration form for this course, as the elements of training permitted to be carried out on board would not significantly reduce the time of the shore based programme.

This is a practical based one day course involving the correct use of breathing apparatus for search & rescue operations incorporating the extinguishment of live fires, utilising hoses, nozzles and extinguishers.

More information on the course can be found on the Updated Proficiency in Advanced Firefighting Course Information Sheet here.
