Building fire in Aintree

Location: Warbeck Moor, Aintree, Sefton

MFRS are in attendance at an incident in Warbreck Moor, Aintree.

Crews were alerted at 12.34pm and on scene at 12.36pm. Six engines are at the scene.

On arrival, crews found a building well alight. 

Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, are tackling the fire using hose reel jets.

It is likely road closures will be put in place.

The public - and motorists - are asked to avoid the area and residents should keep doors and windows closed due to smoke in the area.

UPDATE 1.25pm

Firefighting at this warehouse building continues.

The aerial appliance is now also at the scene and the fire, which involves an area of approx. 30x20m over ground floor and mezzanine levels, has been sectorised.

Hose reel jets and a main jet are in use internally.

The public - and motorists - should continue to avoid the area and residents should keep doors and windows closed due to smoke. Anyone with existing medical conditions should keep medicines nearby and should call NHS 111 if ill effects occur.

Firefighting continues with 8 fire engines now on scene.

Crews are working to prevent the fire spreading to adjoining premises. Some nearby shops and other premises have been evacuated.

Firefighters remain on scene. The incident is in the process of being scaled down to four fire engines and the aerial appliance.

Firefighters remain on scene as scaling down continues. There are now three engines and the aerial appliance in attendance.

The junction of Hall Lane and Walton Vale is still closed.

MFRS are likely to maintain a presence at the scene into the night.

UPDATE 26th May - 9.25AM

We maintained a presence overnight at the scene.

The fire is largely extinguished now. We still have one crew in attendance and firefighters continue damping down and checking hot spots.

Road closures have now been lifted.

There are not thought to have been any injuries in relation to this incident though extensive damage has been caused to the warehouse building and its contents.
