Building fire in Kirkby

Location: Brook Hey Drive, Kirkby, Northwood

MFRS are in attendance at an incident in Brook Hey Drive, Kirkby, Northwood.

Crews were alerted at 4.09pm and on scene at 4.14pm. Four engines and an aerial appliance are at the scene.

On arrival, crews found a building, approx 20x20m, next to a church, to be well alight. 

Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, are tackling the fire internally using hose reel jets and a main branch.

Police are also in attendance and are putting road closures in place.

The public are asked to avoid the area and residents should keep doors and windows closed.

UPDATE 6.45pm

MFRS now have six engines at the scene.

The incident, which involves a number of seats of fire, has been divided into 2 sectors. 

Internally, crews are hot spotting. A 9m ladder has been established in sector 2 with firefighters in rag harness operating hose reel jets on to the roof.

UPDATE 9pm

Crews have now extinguished the fire and commenced damping down.

There are not thought to be any injuries.
