Building fire in New Ferry

Location: Clipper View, New Ferry

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service is currently in attendance at a building fire on Clipper View, New Ferry.

Crews were alerted at 00.05am on Friday 6th August. Six fire engines are in attendance as well as the combined platform ladder appliance.

The incident involves a two storey building with the roof fully involved in fire.

Crews have gained access to the premises and are fighting the fire externally.

Fire Control have taken approximately 20 calls in relation to this incident

Nearby residents and businesses should keep windows and doors closed. Anyone with existing medical conditions should keep medicines nearby and call NHS 111 if ill effects occur.

Please avoid the area.

The incident is ongoing.

UPDATE 2.11AM

The fire has been brought under control. 

The fire involves a cafe at the rear of a convenience store. Severe damage has been caused as a result of the fire.

Incident Commander, Station Manager Alun Evans, said: "Firefighters worked quickly and effectively to bring this well developed fire under control. They have been able to successfully contain it to the affected building, protect neighbouring properties from any fire spread and reduce the impact of smoke on the surrounding area. Crews are now working to tackle any smaller pockets of fire that remain."

Crews are expected to remain on scene for the next two to three hours carrying out damping down and hot spotting operations.

It is not believed there are any injuries.

Residents and businesses no longer need to keep their windows and doors closed as the smoke has been reduced. 

An investigation into the cause of the fire will be carried out in due course. 

UPDATE 9.35AM

Fire crews left the scene at 7.53am. A joint investigation between Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service and Merseyside Police is underway.
