Building Fire, Scotland Road

Fire crews have been called to a fire at a building under construction in Scotland Road in Everton, Liverpool this morning between the junctions of Chapel Gardens and Penrhyn Street. Crews were alerted at 6.50am and on scene at 6.57am, with four fire engines and an aerial appliance in attendance. 

Crews arrived to find a three storey mid-terrace building currently under construction with the roof on fire. Fire crews are fighting the fire externally with three hose reel jets and a main branch hose. The aerial appliance is being located and readied to fight the fire in the roof area and check for fire spread.

Buildings on either side have been cleared and all persons are accounted for. 

There is severe traffic congestion on Scotland Road, please avoid the area.

Incident update: 9.45am

The fire was brought under control by just after 7.30am with MFRS liaising with Merseyside Police to reopen the road to traffic coming from the city centre. Firefighting still continued with four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus fighting the fire with two hose reel jets. Small pockets of fire were being extinguished with hose reel jets and road access into the city centre remained closed. Fire crews remain to check for hot spots and monitor temperatures with two fire engines now in attendance.
