Bus Fire, Aintree

Fire crews have been called to a bus fire on Ormskirk Road, Aintree, this morning. Crews were alerted at 11.55am and on scene at 12.01pm, with two fire engines in attendance.

Crews arrived to find a single decker bus fully involved in fire. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus began to fight the fire with hose reel jets to prevent any escalation. Ormskirk Road was closed heading towards switch island.

The driver and all passengers were accounted for and had evacuated the bus before the fire took hold, with no apparent injuries. The fire was suppressed by 12.15pm and an engineer from the bus company is in attendance and arranging recovery of the bus.

Fire crews are in the process of moving vehicles to allow part of the road to open.

Fire crews remain on scene -the incident is likely to cause significant traffic disruption for some time, please avoid the area.

UPDATE 1.10pm:

Crews continued damping down the area and the fire is now fully extinguished. A lane has been opened for traffic flow and crews have handed over the scene to Merseyside Police.
