Derelict Building fire, Argyle Street, Birkenhead

Fire crews have been called to a fire at a building on Argyle Street, Birkenhead. Crews were alerted at 1.50am and on scene at 1.56am, with seven fire engines and an aerial appliance in attendance early in the incident.

Crews arrived to find a three storey brick building with a fire on the second floor. Crews rapidly gained access to the building with six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using hose reel jets and a main branch hose to fight the fire.

Merseyside Police are also on scene and have closed Argyle Street. The incident was divided into sectors and the fire was rapidly extinguished, with the incident being scaled down to five fire engines.

 A search is being carried out of the premises and a multi agency meeting has taken place between MFRS, Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service. 

The incident is now being scaled down further, with fire crews checking for hot spots and all persons accounted for.
