Derelict building fire, Rainhill Road, Rainhill

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) are in attendance at an incident on Rainhill Road, Rainhill, on the evening of Saturday 17th May.

Crews were alerted at 20.09 and on scene at 20.15 with six fire engines and one aerial appliance currently at scene.

On arrival, crews found one derelict property with the first floor well alight. External firefighting is taking place, water supplies are being established, and the aerial appliance is being set up.

This is an ongoing incident, please avoid the area.

UPDATE 23.15

Multi agency meetings have taken place this evening and two teams of two firefighters in breathing apparatus (BA) have been committed to search and fight the fire. Utilities to the premises have been isolated.

Crews are using two high pressure hose reel jets at scene, and the first and ground floors are in the process of being searched and cleared. The aerial appliance is no longer in use.

UPDATE 09.00 - Sunday 18th May

Firefighters searched and cleared the property with all persons accounted for and by 00.25 on the morning of Sunday 18th May, fire engines and resources at this incident were being scaled down.

Crews continued to damp down the affected area and monitor temperatures through the night, while liaising with the responsible person and security for the site.

At 01.50 it was agreed that one fire engine and crew would return first thing in the morning to inspect the scene for any hotspots.

After inspection, crews identified a hotspot under the roof involving smouldering timber. Crews removed this and continued to monitor temperatures at scene.

With all temperature readings at ambient levels, crews made up their equipment and handed over to on site security, leaving the scene at 07.52 on the morning of Sunday 18th May.
