Derelict Social Club Fire, St Helens

Fire crews have been called to a fire at a derelict social club on Alexandra Drive, St Helens.

Crews were alerted at 10.31PM and on scene at 10.37PM.

6 fire engines are on scene and an aerial appliance has been requested.

Fire crews arrived to find a single-storey derelict social club approx 30 x 80 metres in size well alight and began to fight the fire externally with 3 main branch hoses and a hose reel jet while trying to gain access to the building.

The fire has now been divided into 4 sectors and firefighting continues across all fronts.

Residents nearby should keep doors and windows closed. If you have an existing medical condition keep medicine nearby and if any ill effects are experienced dial NHS 111 for advice. 

The incident is ongoing.

UPDATE - 30th June, 9.30am 

Firefighting activities continued overnight and into Wednesday, 30th June.

At the height of the incident, there were 8 engines and an aerial appliance on scene.

As of 7am of this morning, the fire is under control, almost extinguished, with damping down and hot-spotting taking place. 

MFRS will maintain a presence at the scene today due to the potential of unseen embers to remain and reignite.

Merseyside Police are also on scene and a joint investigation into the cause of the fire will take place in due course.

There are not thought to be any injuries.
