Location: Formby, Sefton
Fire crews have been called to a former school site in West Lane, St. Anne's Road, Formby this evening. Crews were alerted at 7.47pm and on scene at 7.50pm, with four fire engines in attendance.
Crews arrived to find a theatre building at the former Clarence High School well alight with an area around 50 x 20 metres in size involved. The incident has been divided into sectors and firefighters have established water supplies and are beginning to fight the fire.
There are significant amounts of smoke being generated by the fire. Residents nearby should keep doors and windows closed. If you have an existing medical condition keep medicines nearby and if any ill effects are experienced dial NHS 111 for advice.
Please avoid the area.

Firefighters have made good progress with main branch hoses and hose reel jets and the main body of fire has been extinguished. Firefighters are damping down and checking for hotspots and the incident will be scaled down shortly.
INCIDENT UPDATE - FRIDAY 12 SEPTEMBER - 08.20AM
Fire crews worked through the night into the early hours of Friday 12th September to bring this incident to a close.
MFRS personnel used one aerial appliance to hotspot and damp down the roof structure before making up their equipment.
Firefighters liaised with the responsible person and completed an external handover before leaving at 1.40am.
