Fire in electrical substation, St Helens

Location: Carnegie Crescent, St Helens

Firefighters are currently in attendance at Carnegie Crescent, Sutton, St Helens, following reports of smoke coming from an electrical substation.

Crews were alerted at 10.25am and on scene at 10.31am. Two fire engines are currently in attendance.

A number of properties have been evacuated and a cordon has been put in place.

Power to the substation has been isolated and a number of properties in the area are without power as a result of the incident.

Merseyside Police, St Helens Council, Cadent and Scottish Power are also in attendance.

The incident is ongoing.

UPDATE 2.38PM.

Inspections carried out by Cadent at the scene have found there to be no gas leaks present. Power has already been returned to a number of properties in the area, with the remaining homes due to have theirs returned shortly.

Fire crews have now left the scene and handed the incident over to Scottish Power and Cadent.
