Fire in empty building, Garston

Location: Blackburne Street, Garston

Firefighters are currently in attendance at a fire in an empty building near Weaver Industrial Estate, Garston.

Crews were alerted at 6.14pm and arrived on scene on Blackburne Street at 6.24pm. Four fire engines are currently in attendance as well as the combined platform ladder.

On arrival crews found a well developed fire in the first floor of an empty building, approximately 30m by 10m.

Crews are attempting to gain access to the building and are firefighting from the outside using two hose reel jets.

Nearby residents and businesses should keep windows and doors closed. Anyone with existing medical conditions should keep medicines close by and call NHS 111 if ill effects occur.

Please avoid the area.


UPDATE 7.24PM

The fire has been sectorised. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have been using hose reel jets to tackle the fire internally. Two main jets are also being used.

The combined platform ladder is being positioned.

The incident is ongoing.

UPDATE 8.12PM

Three fire engines remain in attendance, as well as the combined platform ladder.

Firefighters have gained access to the adjoining units and are checking for fire spread.
