Flat fire, Legh Road, Haydock

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) are in attendance at an incident on Legh Road, Haydock, on the morning of Monday 22nd September.

Crews were alerted at 08.51 and on scene at 08.58 with four fire engines and one aerial appliance attending.

This is a two-storey brick built end terrace flat above shops. On arrival the first floor flat and roof space were involved in fire.

Four firefighters in breathing apparatus (BA) were committed using two high pressure hose reels.

An additional two firefighters in BA have been committed to search the two flats situated above the shop. A covering branch has been laid out and water supply established.

At 09.36 the main body of fire was extinguished. MFRS crews continue to search the premises and make the scene safe.

The aerial appliance has been set up to tackle the fire from above.

This is an ongoing incident, please avoid the area.

UPDATE – 10.45

Crews are hotspotting the roof using the aerial appliance and removing roof tiles. All persons have been accounted for.

Firefighters are damping down the scene with two hose reel jets.

UPDATE – 12.00

At 11.07, it was decided due to progress made during this incident, two fire engines would be released from scene.

Two fire engines and the aerial appliance remain at scene while firefighters monitor temperatures, damp down and check for hotspots. Salvage operations are being carried out within the ground floor shop.
