Flat fire, McCormack Avenue, St. Helens

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) crews attended an incident on McCormack Avenue, St Helens, on the evening of Wednesday 15 April.

Crews were alerted at 16.53 and on scene at 16.58 with three fire engines attending.

This was a fire in a first floor flat, within a two storey property consisting of six flats.

On arrival, four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus (BA) with a hose reel jet were deployed to fight the fire and carry out a search for any occupants.

By 17.16 the fire was extinguished, and the premises was ventilated. All persons were accounted for.

MFRS crews checked the roof space and neighbouring properties for smoke and fire spread. Some light smoke was present in a neighbouring property and natural ventilation took place.

The gas and electrics to the building was isolated.

North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) also attended and one occupant received precautionary checks for smoke inhalation.

At 18.04, our presence was scaled down from three fire engines to two, before Fire Service personnel left the scene at 19.34.
