Gas leak, Prescot

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) are in attendance at an incident on Warrington Road, Prescot, on the evening of Tuesday 30th September.

Crews were alerted at 18.15 and on scene at 18.25 with two fire engines attending.

On arrival this was a confirmed gas leak by Cadent as a result of works being carried out in the vicinity.

Four shops and five flats above have been fully evacuated on both sides of Warrington Road, no injuries have been reported.

Merseyside Police are in attendance to assist with road closures.

Gas and electrics have been isolated to the premises.

A Cadent dig team are also in attendance and in the process of digging out the gas main to isolate it.

MFRS crews are standing by with two firefighters in breathing apparatus and have laid out two main covering branches as a precaution.

A multi-agency meeting has taken place with Police continuing to maintain cordons and road closures.

Conditions at scene are being monitored and the Fire Service will remain in attendance until gas levels reach a safe level.
