Fire crews have been called to a grass fire on the loop line near to Montgomery Road, Aintree L9 this afternoon. Crews were alerted at 4.17pm and on scene at 4.25pm, with two fire engines in attendance.
Crews arrived to find a large wind-driven fire on a railway embankment around 200 metres by 10 metres, with close access difficult owing to a barrier and a live railway line.
Firefighters are fighting the fire from two locations with high pressure hose reel jets.
The fire is not affecting the railway line and trains are continuing to run.
Residents nearby should keep doors and windows closed. Anyone suffering from an existing health condition should keep medicines close and if any ill effects are experienced dial NHS 111.
