Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service is currently in attendance at an incident on Junction Lane, Newton-le-Willows.
Crews were alerted at 8.44pm and arrived on scene at 8.49pm. Four fire engines are currently on scene.
On arrival crews found a HGV loaded with hay well involved in fire, with two nearby trailers also involved in fire.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are currently fighting the fire using two hose reel jets.
The incident is ongoing and a large amount of smoke is in the area. Residents nearby should keep doors and windows closed. If you have an existing health condition keep medicines close and if any ill effects are experienced dial NHS 111 for advice.
UPDATE - 11:00PM:
Breathing apparatus use has ceased and the incident is being scaled down to three fire engines in attendance. Firefighters are dampening down the hay pile using two hose reel jets.
