House fire in St Helens

Location: Taunton Ave, St Helens

Firefighters are currently in attendance at a house fire on Taunton Avenue, Sutton Leach, St Helens.

Crews arrived at the property 2.14pm. Four fire engines are currently in attendance.

On arrival crews found the roof space of two semi detached properties, approximately 10m x 10m, well alight.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have entered the property and are using a high pressure hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

Residents and businesses nearby should keep windows and doors closed. Anyone with existing medical conditions should keep medicines nearby and call NHS 111 if ill effects occur.

The incident is ongoing.

UPDATE 2.53pm

Firefighting continues on Taunton Avenue, Sutton Leach.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are currently in each of the two semi detached properties.

Firefighters have located the seat of the fire in the roof space of one of the properties. Crews are attempting to gain access to the roof space through the first floor ceiling. Two high pressure hose reel jets are in use.

The combined platform ladder has been requested to aid in firefighting operations.

The incident is ongoing.

UPDATE 3.40PM

The fire is under control with crews now removing the roof tiles of the property to check for further fire spread.

The incident has been scaled down, with two fire engines and the aerial appliance remaining in attendance.

UPDATE 27th AUGUST:

Firefighters left the scene at 4.55pm. One person was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital by NWAS for further treatment.
