House fire, Loughrigg Avenue, St Helens

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service this evening attended a house fire on Loughrigg Avenue, St. Helens.

Crews were alerted a little after 8pm on Saturday 13th November and three fire engines were on scene shortly after.

The fire was located in the kitchen area of a two storey mid terrace property.

On arrival crews liaised with neighbours who confirmed there was one occupant inside of the property.

Four fire fighters from St Helens entered the property wearing breathing apparatus, where significant smoke logging was present. Firefighters worked extremely hard to quickly extinguish the fire and search the property for persons reported.

The resident was rescued from a first floor bedroom and brought out of the property into the care of paramedics from North West Ambulance Service. The casualty was then conveyed to hospital.

Group Manager Mark Thomas who attended the incident said: “I would like to commend the rapid actions of fire crews that attended the incident on Loughrigg Avenue, St. Helens.

The courage, integrity, and compassion shown by firefighters to extinguish the fire, search for the occupant and rescue the casualty from the property is a credit to Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service.”

Crews left the scene at 11.16pm.
