Incident at distribution centre, St Helens

Location: Lea Green Road, St Helens

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service is currently in attendance on Lea Green Road, St Helens, following reports of a chemical leak at a distribution centre.

Crews were alerted at 1.41pm and on scene at 1.49pm. Six fire engines are currently in attendance.

The site has been evacuated as a precaution whilst crews establish the extent of the leak.

Fire crews are working with multi-agency partners and are liaising with the local authority to ensure the nearby school and businesses are kept informed.

One person has been assessed at the scene by North West Ambulance Service and taken to hospital for further assessment.

Merseyside Police are also in attendance and are assisting with the closure of Elton Head Road.

The incident is ongoing. Please avoid the area.

Emergency services remain in attendance on Lea Green Road.

A number of multi agency meetings have taken place.

Crews are expected to remain on scene throughout the evening to ensure the affected area has been isolated.

UPDATE 8.54PM

Fire crews have worked with multi agency partners and specialist teams on site to isolate the leak to the affected area. The leak has now been suppressed.

The incident has been handed over to on site personnel. Fire crews are now making up equipment and are expected to leave the scene shortly.
