Large bonfire, Bootle

Firefighters are currently in attendance at a large bonfire in Bootle.

Crews were alerted at 6.16pm and on scene at 6.23pm. Three fire engines are currently in attendance. The combined platform ladder has also been requested.

On arrival crews found a large bonfire, approximately 15m x 15m, to be well alight on land opposite Norfolk Close.

Crews are using main branches and compressed air foam to tackle the fire.

Due to the large volume of smoke from the fire, we are urging residents and businesses around the Hawthorne Road area to keep their windows and doors closed.

Anyone with existing medical conditions should keep medicines close by and call NHS 111 if ill effects occur.

UPDATE 8.46AM WED 4TH NOVEMBER

Firefighting continued overnight. Two fire engines remain in attendance.

At the height of the fire, three fire engines were in attendance as well as the combined platform ladder.

Sefton Council are now in attendance and are using a JCB to spread out the material and allow firefighters using handheld branches to ensure it is fully extinguished.

Cordons are in place on Brook Hill Road.
