Fire crews have been called to Crosby Beach after reports of 2 people stuck in the mudflats.

Crews were on scene at 1.30pm and made their way from a rendezvous point at Crosby Leisure Centre, Mariners Road, to the point of the incident around 400 metres away.

Two fire engines and the specialist Search & Rescue team are in attendance. Crosby lifeguard and HM Coastguard are also on scene.

Crews arrived at the scene to find 2 people trapped in the mud up to their knees, both not thought to be suffering any serious injury. After a multi-agency meeting to discuss a rescue plan, crews set up rescue equipment and assisted HM Coastguard, with HM Coastguard focusing on one person and MFRS the second person. Both people were successfully rescued from the mud by 2.09pm and are being transported on foot to Crosby Leisure Centre rendezvous point to be checked over by North West Ambulance staff.
