One person has been rescued from mud flats near Liverpool City Centre this morning following a multi-agency response.

Firefighters were called at 5.54am on Tuesday 15th December and on scene at 6.02am. Two fire engines, the search and rescue team (SRT) appliance, Marine Fire One (MF1) and the combined platform ladder were in attendance. Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) were also in attendance.

On arrival, crews found one person approximately five yards onto the mud flats, directly at the end of Gower Street and Kings Parade.

Following the set up of a rope system and the deployment of Marine Fire One's rescue sled, two firefighters, two members of SRT, one member of MF1 and NWAS' HART team were able to access the casualty.

The casualty, who was conscious and breathing, was assessed by NWAS before being loaded onto a basket stretcher. Crews then used a rope system to bring the casualty up to shore side, before handing them into the care of NWAS.

The person is being taken to hospital for further assessment.
