Location: Clock Face, St. Helens
Fire crews were called to a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) at Walkers Lane, Clock Face, St. Helens today. Crews were alerted at 11.53am and on scene at 11.58am, with two fire engines and the search and rescue team in attendance. Crews arrived to find two vehicles had been involved in a collision, with both vehicles on all four wheels.
One vehicle had two occupants still in the vehicle, conscious and breathing, with one physically trapped in the vehicle and the other confined to the vehicle as a result of their physical condition. A further two occupants of the vehicle were already out of the vehicle on the arrival of crews.
This vehicle had collided with a second, stationary vehicle which had then caused damage to a property. Fire crews requested the attendance of a structural engineer and began assessing casualties, shortly after which North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) arrived. NWAS assessed casualties in and outside the vehicle.
Vehicles were monitored with Thermal Imaging Cameras and the vehicle with occupants trapped inside was moved using wheeled jacks to allow access for crews to remove casualties safely via the door with the oversight of paramedics.
A building surveyor attended and had no concerns after an assessment of the property. Both casualties removed from the vehicle were taken to hospital for further assessment. Crews remained for a final assessment of both vehicles before handing over to Police and leaving the scene at 1.32pm.
