Location: Kirkdale, Liverpool
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) is currently in attendance at an incident on Regent Road, Kirkdale, on the evening of Wednesday 9 September.
Crews were alerted at 8.29pm and arrived on scene at 8.34pm, with eight fire engines and one aerial appliance attending at the height of the incident.
On arrival this is fire involving a pile of scrap metal measuring approximately 30m x 40m.
Firefighters are using two main branches and one ground monitor.
Fire Service personnel are liaising with on site staff an utilising on site machinery to separate the pile of scrap affected to prevent escalation.
MFRS crews are continuing to make good progress, with an on site crane in use to move materials from the affected scrap pile. A further hose reel jet is being used to damp down affected materials.

UPDATE - Thursday 10 September - 10.30AM
MFRS crews worked tirelessly through the night to bring this protracted incident to a successful close in challenging conditions.
While dealing with the scrap metal fire, crews identified a fire involving a pre-shredder and worked quickly to isolate and fight the fire, ensuring this did not spread to a nearby caravan and vehicles. Four occupants were evacuated as a precautionary measure, with no injuries reported.
By 1.05am on the morning of Thursday 10 September, the incident was scaled down to six fire engines. Fire Service personnel continued to fire fight the scrap metal pile involved with hose reel jets and one ground monitor, with on site plant machinery also in operation.
Five minutes later, with great progress made and as a testament to the hard work of MFRS crews, the incident was scaled down still further, with three fire engines remaining at scene.
Firefighters in attendance continued to monitor conditions at scene, damping down and hot spotting as appropriate.
Following a full inspection of the site, MFRS crews left the scene at 7.14am on the morning of Thursday 10 September.
