Fire crews have been called to a serious fire at a flat in Laurence Deacon Court, St. Anne Street, Birkenhead this evening.
Crews were alerted at 8.45pm and on scene at 8.48pm.
3 fire engines are in attendance.
Firefighters arrived to find a fire at a ground floor flat and entered under rapid deployment, with firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and fighting the fire with hose reel jets.
The fire has now been extinguished.
Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service are also in attendance.
An initial investigation into the incident is taking place.

Sadly we can now confirm that during their search of the flat firefighters discovered the body of a man in the property. His next of kin have been informed and a joint investigation is underway with Merseyside Police into the cause of the fire.
