Fire crews have been called to a serious house fire on Oaklands Avenue, Crosby, this morning.
Crews were alerted at 5.43am and on scene at 5.48am, with three fire engines in attendance. Fire crews arrived to find a fire in the first floor front bedroom of a semi-detached property, with two firefighters entering the property under rapid deployment, searching the property and fighting the fire with high pressure hose reel jets.
A casualty was rescued from the top floor and emergency life-saving procedures were carried out by fire crews and a paramedic on scene. While this took place four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus continued to fight the fire in the house using two high pressure hose reels. The house next door was evacuated.
The fire was extinguished by 6.11am, utilities were isolated and ventilation of the building took place. Merseyside Police were also in attendance. Fire crews checked the loft space for fire spread and monitored temperatures.
The casualty was taken to hospital in a serious condition by North West Ambulance Service for medical treatment.
Firefighters carried out further checks in the adjoining property and residents were then allowed to return to their home. Crews left the scene at 7.06am.
